Washington, July 21 (NationPress) World No. 8 Holger Rune recently shared his experiences following a brief training collaboration with Andre Agassi in Washington D.C., just before the DC Open, stating that he feels more empowered and ready to compete.
As he readies for the crucial US summer hard-court season, Rune sought Agassi's guidance at the very location where the tennis legend secured five of his 60 career titles.
“It was a great experience. We've been communicating for a while, and we spent a couple of days together in Washington, where he provided insights and feedback on my game,” Rune disclosed during a press conference.
“It was a tremendous honor. He is incredibly knowledgeable. I've never encountered someone who perceives the game in such a profound manner.”
“His return game was phenomenal, and I have strong returns too; he shared a few tips on how I can enhance my performance in that area and offered general advice on my game.”
“Although it was a brief interaction, he definitely provided me with a vision of where he sees my potential and my current standing, highlighting areas for improvement. He helped me focus on the right aspects, alongside my coach Lars Christensen. Spending time with him was truly inspiring.”
“I’ve watched countless videos of his play style on YouTube, and his approach to the game is remarkable. His legacy speaks volumes,” he added.
When asked about the possibility of future collaborations with Agassi, the former World No. 4 replied, “He’s a wonderful person, so I would certainly welcome that.”
The 22-year-old Dane is set to kick off his campaign in Washington against either Alexandre Muller from France or a qualifier.
Rune, who triumphed over Carlos Alcaraz to clinch the ATP 500 title in Barcelona and reached the ATP Masters 1000 final in Indian Wells, has faced six opening-round defeats this season, including in his last match at Wimbledon.
He previously won the Rolex Paris Masters in 2022, defeating five Top 10 players, a remarkable achievement that allowed him to qualify for the ATP Finals. Since then, he has secured two more titles: Munich in 2023 and Barcelona this year.
