New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) Firmly supporting India amid increasing US trade pressures, Roman Babushkin, the Charge d'Affaires of Russia in India, emphasized that Moscow will continue to be a dependable partner for New Delhi despite Western criticisms and sanctions.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Babushkin stated, “If the West criticizes you, it indicates you are on the right path. We do not foresee India halting its purchase of Russian oil. This represents a genuine strategic partnership — we are dedicated to resolving any issues, regardless of how difficult the situation may be.”
Babushkin highlighted that although the US has opted to impose additional tariffs on India due to its acquisition of Russian crude, Moscow has established “a very, very special mechanism” to guarantee continuous supplies. He remarked that India’s energy collaboration with Russia is set not only to persist but also to grow, asserting that sanctions have historically failed to disrupt bilateral trade.
In a direct assurance to Indian exporters encountering obstacles in US markets, Babushkin affirmed, “If Indian products are struggling to enter the US market, the Russian market is open for Indian exports to the fullest extent. There’s no need for concern. The sanctions adversely affect those imposing them.”
The Russian diplomat underscored the resilience of Indo-Russian trade relations, pointing out that bilateral trade has increased seven-fold in recent years despite global challenges.
He added that President Vladimir Putin’s recent communication with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was indicative of the profound nature of their partnership, reflecting Russia’s commitment to keep India updated on significant developments.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, Babushkin reiterated Russia’s backing for revitalizing the Russia-India-China (RIC) dialogue during the upcoming SCO Summit, emphasizing the strategic importance of this format.
Babushkin concluded by stating that Moscow perceives India as a reliable partner capable of balancing pressures from the West while enhancing collaboration with Russia across sectors such as defence, energy, and trade.
“Regardless of the circumstances, even in times of adversity, we can identify solutions that satisfy both parties,” he stated.
