Jaipur, April 18 (NationPress) The participation of Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is uncertain for the upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday as the team awaits the results of scans concerning an injury to his side.

Samson had to retire hurt after scoring 31 runs off 19 balls due to a suspected side strain during RR’s latest match against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday.

The RR leader seemed to be in pain after attempting a cut shot off Vipraj Nigam, prompting the physiotherapist to check the left side of his ribcage. Although he faced the next delivery, Samson quickly left the field. The match concluded in a tie, with RR ultimately losing in the Super Over.

"Sanju felt some discomfort in the abdominal area. Therefore, we opted for scans. He underwent scans today, and we are currently awaiting the results. Once we have more information regarding the scans and the seriousness of (the injury), we'll make a decision and see what happens," said head coach Rahul Dravid during the pre-match press conference on Friday.

Samson commenced IPL 2025 while still healing from a thumb injury and participated only as a batter in the initial three matches. During this time, Riyan Parag took on the captaincy and is anticipated to do so again if necessary.

Initially utilized as an Impact Player, Samson resumed full responsibilities as captain and wicketkeeper after receiving clearance from the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, following finger surgery last month. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel managed the wicketkeeping duties.

Under Parag's leadership, RR faced defeats in their first two matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but rebounded with a win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati. They continued with a victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) before experiencing three consecutive losses. Consequently, they currently occupy the eighth position on the points table.

Dravid acknowledged that RR must enhance their execution with the ball during the closing stages of the innings. "We struggled a bit with our death bowling. We conceded 77 runs in the last five overs of the previous game. In the earlier match, we allowed 72 runs. I believe this is another area where we need to improve execution; while our plans have been solid, it is primarily about executing some of those skills better."
