Is Samsung Set to Revolutionize Developer Productivity with AI Coding Assistant?

Seoul, June 8 (NationPress) - Samsung Electronics announced on Sunday that it plans to implement an artificial intelligence (AI) coding assistant named Cline next month to improve the efficiency of its software development team.

According to a recent internal memo, the company has initiated a beta testing phase for Cline among staff in the Device eXperience (DX) division, which encompasses its mobile, television, and home appliances sectors, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

Cline is an open-source AI utility designed to assist developers in writing, editing, and testing code through intuitive natural language commands like “create a login function.” Unlike traditional coding assistants that are limited to basic functions, Cline can manage more intricate software development tasks, thereby significantly enhancing productivity.

Samsung intends to extend beta testing until the end of this month and aims to officially launch the service as soon as next month.

As part of its shift towards becoming an AI-centric organization, Samsung has also formed a dedicated AI productivity innovation group within its DX division.

This new group acts as a central hub, supervising the development of comprehensive AI infrastructure and systems while facilitating the adoption of AI tools across various business units.

In addition, Samsung will convene executive meetings later this month to strategize for the second half of the year.

The global strategy discussions for the electronics division are set for June 17–19, as per the sources.

Samsung holds these meetings biannually, in June and December, led by the heads of each division. They evaluate regional and division-specific challenges and discuss objectives and sales strategies for the following year.

This year's agenda is likely to cover tactics for navigating increasing global uncertainties, particularly the evolving trade policies under U.S. President Donald Trump's administration. Participants are also expected to analyze supply chain vulnerabilities and deliberate on region-specific responses, according to the sources.

Roh Tae-moon, the acting head of the DX division, and Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) division, will oversee the discussions.

As in prior years, Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong is not anticipated to participate in the meetings, sources noted.

The DS division, which manages Samsung's semiconductor sector, is expected to engage in detailed discussions regarding sales strategies and methods for enhancing long-term competitiveness.
