Assam CM Criticizes Gaurav Gogoi's Political Outreach in Jharkhand
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 12 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed strong disapproval on Thursday towards Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for his recent trip to Jharkhand for political discussions. Sarma emphasized that the political dynamics of Assam should not be influenced by external forces.
While addressing the media, Sarma remarked that it is unprecedented for any political figure from Assam to travel to Jharkhand for discussions concerning the state's governance. He stated, “I have not witnessed any political leader from Assam visiting Jharkhand for discussions. The politics of Assam is not orchestrated from outside its borders,” in response to reports regarding Gogoi’s meetings with local leaders.
Reports indicate that Gogoi made the journey from New Delhi to Ranchi on Thursday evening, accompanied by senior Congress figure Jitendra Singh.
This visit coincides with notable political maneuvers among regional parties as Assam approaches an election cycle.
During their meeting, the Congress representatives engaged with Hemant Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), urging the party to support Congress in Assam instead of favoring the regional Raijor Dal, which is led by Akhil Gogoi.
This strategy arises from indications of increasing collaboration between Raijor Dal and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's leaders.
Previously, on March 6, a private meeting occurred at Akhil Gogoi’s residence in Guwahati with attendance from two Jharkhand leaders: cabinet minister Chamra Linda and Vishwanath Tirkey, the national general secretary of a tribal organization.
Details from that gathering suggested discussions were focused on potential alliances in Assam involving Raijor Dal, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and the recently established Jai Bharat Party.
Furthermore, speculation was fueled by Hemant Soren's recent visit to Assam, where he participated in a Jai Bharat Party meeting earlier this week.
Sarma remarked that these events reflect increasing political strategizing ahead of the upcoming elections in Assam, asserting that ultimately, the state's populace will determine its political course.
Meanwhile, Gogoi's visit to Ranchi is perceived as an effort by Congress leadership to secure JMM’s backing in Assam, directing it away from regional entities like Raijor Dal.
