Guwahati, Sep 11 (NationPress) Lok Sabha MP and state Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday launched a scathing critique against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling him a “failed leader” who has not fulfilled the commitments made to the populace during his extended tenure.
Speaking at an election rally held at the Panbari Higher Secondary School grounds in the Manah Serfang constituency of Chirang district, Gogoi reflected on Sarma’s previous aspiration to elevate Assam into the top five states in India.
“Currently, however, Assam is among the bottom five states. Under his leadership, both education and health sectors have experienced significant declines. His leadership record speaks volumes,” the Congress leader stated.
He further accused the BJP administration of not fulfilling its commitment to grant land rights to indigenous populations.
“The BJP vowed to distribute land pattas, yet instead they seized land for their relatives. They established companies under their sons’ names, dismantled local enterprises, and transferred over 40,000 bighas of Assam’s land to corporate entities,” Gogoi asserted.
Criticizing Sarma’s governance style, the Congress MP expressed that the Chief Minister’s administration was characterized by cronyism and unfulfilled promises.
He also claimed that the ruling party had misled the public with grandiose statements while neglecting critical issues like unemployment, poverty, and the escalating cost of living.
Commenting on a recent event in Dhubri’s Golokganj, Gogoi condemned the police’s actions against members of the Koch Rajbongshi community who were protesting for Scheduled Tribe status and a separate Kamatapur state.
“The violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators was inhumane and unacceptable,” he remarked, stressing that the government had been indifferent to the concerns of indigenous communities and the youth.
Gogoi urged the residents of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) to recognize the deceptive promises of the BJP and rally behind the Congress in the forthcoming elections, which he emphasized is crucial for safeguarding the rights and dignity of the people of Assam.
