Hangzhou (China), Dec 18 (NationPress) India’s premier men’s doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, achieved their second consecutive victory at the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 by overcoming Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in an exhilarating three-game match at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium on Thursday.

The Indian pair, holding the No.3 rank globally, displayed remarkable skill and poise, winning the match with scores of 21-11, 16-21, and 21-11, thereby solidifying their position in Group B and enhancing their chances of reaching the semifinals. With two victories out of two matches, Satwik and Chirag are now at the top of the group with a significant points advantage.

This latest triumph brings them closer to a semifinal spot, as they maintain their lead in Group B.

In the first game, Satwik and Chirag were in command, never trailing and winning decisively at 21-11. The Indonesian duo, who triumphed at the China Open Super 1000 earlier this year despite forming their partnership only in 2025, attempted a comeback in the second game. The Indians recovered from an early 8-3 deficit to equalize at 12-12, but eventually lost the game 16-21.

In the final game, Satwik and Chirag responded powerfully. After a few early exchanges, they surged ahead, establishing leads of up to eight points before comfortably closing the match at 21-11.

Next, they will compete against second seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia in their final group match on Friday.

Group A consists of the top-seeded pair Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae of Korea, Wei Chong Man/Wun Tee Kai of Malaysia, Sabai Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia, along with Chiu Hsiang-Chieh/Wang Chi-Lin of Chinese Taipei.

In women's singles, fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan bounced back from dropping the first game against Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia, winning 22-24, 21-19, 21-13. Meanwhile, top seed An Se Young of Korea defeated Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan in straight games, 21-9, 21-6 in a match lasting just 33 minutes.
