Shenzhen (China), Sep 19 (NationPress) The premier men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have advanced to their second consecutive semifinals on the BWF World Tour, clinching their spot in the semifinals of the China Masters 2025 with a convincing straight-games win at the Shenzhen Arena on Friday.
Rankireddy and Shetty, who were runners-up in the Hong Kong Open 2025 last week, dominated the match against China's Ren Xiang Yu and Xie Haonan, finishing with scores of 21-14, 21-14 in just 38 minutes during their quarterfinal showdown.
This performance was a stark contrast to that of the singles star P.V. Sindhu, who faced elimination in the same tournament, falling to top seed An Se Young from Korea in straight games in her quarterfinal match.
Sindhu lost with scores of 14-21, 13-21 in 38 minutes on Court 2 at the gymnasium located on Shangbu North Road.
Rankireddy and Shetty, seeded eighth in men's doubles and ranked fourth globally in the BWF World Rankings, previously triumphed over Chiu Hsiang Cheh and Chi-Lin Wang from Chinese Taipei with scores of 21-13, 21-12 in the second round.
During their quarterfinal match, Rankireddy and Shetty started strong, establishing a 7-0 lead in the first game. Though the Chinese duo closed the gap to 4-8, the Indian pair maintained control, extending their lead to 11-5 and 17-10 before sealing the first game at 21-14.
The second game saw a more competitive start, with the score tied at 6-6. Rankireddy and Shetty managed to pull ahead to 10-7 but faced challenges as Ren and Xie narrowed the gap to 10-13 and then 12-14.
However, after leading 15-13, Rankireddy and Shetty took full control, securing the match with a final score of 21-14, clinching five consecutive points. In the semifinals, they will face the seeded Malaysian team of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who triumphed over Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana from Indonesia, vying for a place in their second consecutive final.
