New Delhi, June 6 (NationPress) The Supreme Court on Friday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) permission to cancel the bail of Congress MLA and former Karnataka Minister Vinay Kulkarni, linked to the murder of BJP worker Yogesh Gowda, amid allegations of witness manipulation.
A panel of Justices Sanjay Karol and Satish Chandra Sharma acknowledged the CBI's claim that Kulkarni attempted to reach out to witnesses through acquaintances to sway their testimonies against the prosecution.
The Justice Karol-led Bench chose not to delve deeply into the witness-tampering claims but noted that there was “ample evidence” indicating Kulkarni's attempts to either contact or influence witnesses.
“Given the overall circumstances, this Court believes that the bail awarded to the Respondent (Vinay Kulkarni) should be revoked,” stated the apex court.
Kulkarni, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, was ordered to report to the relevant trial court or jail authority within one week.
