Serie A: Como 1907 Signs French Goalkeeper Jean Butez

Como, Jan 7 (NationPress) Como 1907 has officially acquired goalkeeper Jean Butez from Royal Antwerp FC on a three-year contract, ensuring his stay at the club until 2027. The 29-year-old French goalkeeper played a vital role in Antwerp’s domestic treble in 2023, where he recorded an impressive 27 clean sheets.

“I’m thrilled to join Como 1907. For me, it’s a dream come true to play in Italy. After several years in Belgium and winning a historic double with my former club Royal Antwerp, I believe that joining this renowned club is a significant step forward in my career. I’ve had excellent discussions with Mark-Jan Fledderus, along with coach Cesc Fàbregas,” he stated on Tuesday.

“This project is one where I can envision my growth over the coming years. I’m also excited to explore such a beautiful part of Italy with my family—my wife and our two children, who are one and three years old. It promises to be an amazing family journey. I hope we achieve considerable success together in the upcoming weeks. I look forward to meeting the squad and the fans very soon. I anticipate a wonderful adventure ahead,” Jean added.

Born in Lille, France, Butez started his football career with FC Merris before moving to the youth academy at Lille OSC in 2003. He later transferred to Royal Excel Mouscron before signing with Royal Antwerp FC in 2020, quickly establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.

“Jean’s consistency and leadership from the back are qualities that will significantly benefit our team. His experience and shot-stopping skills make him an invaluable asset as we continue to strengthen our squad,” remarked head coach Fabregas.

The club is currently positioned in 16th place on the Italian first-division table, with four wins, six draws, and eight losses. The addition of Jean is aimed at reinforcing their defense, which has allowed 30 goals in 18 matches.
