Mumbai, Aug 6 (NationPress) Actress-producer Shweta Tripathi, who is touring her critically acclaimed play titled “Cock” across India, stated that queer stories aren't confined to a season; they are fundamentally human narratives. These stories warrant recognition, dignity, and celebration all year round.
Following the acclaim received for her play Cock, which enjoyed successful runs in Mumbai and Delhi during Pride Month, Shweta is poised to bring the production to additional cities in India, produced under her stage production company, AllMyTea.
“This play is exceptionally meaningful to me,” Shweta shared.
“The theme of Pride transcends calendar dates. Being an ally requires commitment every single day. Queer narratives are not seasonal—they're human experiences, deserving of recognition, dignity, and celebration throughout the year.”
Shweta expressed that as an artist, she bears a profound duty to mirror the diversity of the world we inhabit.
“That’s why we are dedicated to bringing Cock to more locations nationwide. We are currently negotiating to extend the play’s reach into 2025 and 2026, and I am thrilled to engage with new audiences,” the actress remarked.
The production explores themes of love, identity, and sexual fluidity, resonating deeply with audiences and sparking crucial discussions surrounding LGBTQ+ representation in Indian theatre.
Written by British playwright Mike Bartlett, and directed by Manish Gandhi, the play is a dynamic, emotionally charged drama that examines identity, sexuality, and the fluid nature of love. It presents an honest, unapologetic portrayal of a man torn between the predictable and the unexpected—his long-term male partner and a newfound attraction to a woman.
In addition to touring with Cock, Shweta is preparing for her debut film as a producer, which will feature a poignant queer love story.
On the acting front, Shweta was last seen on screen in the comedy Kanjoos Makhichoos directed by Vipul Mehta.
