Ketan Agarwal murder: Singer recalls his innocence after performing at family function
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Singer Reetu Sharma, who performed at a family function of Ketan Agarwal on 7 May in Nashik, says she is constantly reminded of his warmth and words from that evening — even as she demands strict punishment for murder accused Siya Goyal, Ketan's fiancée. The case has drawn widespread attention after Ketan was allegedly pushed to his death from a fort by Siya.
The Function That Now Haunts Her
The occasion on 7 May was the wedding ritual of Ketan's cousin — his paternal aunt's daughter — which the Goyal family also attended. Sharma, who was hired through an event management company and had previously performed at three to four functions of the Agarwal family, recalled seeing both families celebrate together with no visible sign of discord.
'Both families were happy and very much involved. In fact, both Ketan and Siya's parents were dancing together and, as seen in the videos, Ketan's father was even singing with me,' she said.
What the Videos Show
On Tuesday night, Sharma posted two old videos on Instagram from that function. The first shows Vishal Agarwal, Ketan's father, dancing alongside Pravin Goyal and Pooja Goyal — Siya's parents — and other relatives. Seconds later, Ketan is seen dancing with Pravin Goyal to a popular Bollywood song, the two families visibly at ease with each other.
Sharma wrote alongside the videos: 'On 7th May, we did a program in their family. Where you all can see they are all happily enjoying the program. How happy both the families were. We saw Ketan from our own eyes. Such an innocent child. Who knew this will happen to this beautiful soul.'
Singer's Personal Recollection of Ketan
Sharma said she learnt of Ketan's alleged murder through the social media status of a member of the Agarwal family — a detail that made the memory of that evening hit harder. She recalled his gestures after the performance with visible emotion.
'I was constantly recalling Ketan's face and his words from the function on that day. I cannot forget the style in which he told me — Maa'm, you are superb; amazing, and please take your lunch — after the function. Because after such functions we are usually tired, but the way he kept on persuading me till I had my lunch keeps coming back to me,' she said.
Demand for Justice
Sharma called for strict punishment for Siya Goyal, framing the alleged act as one driven by personal choice at the cost of another's life. 'Just because she did not like him doesn't mean she can take someone's life. She did think about her parents — that if she ran with her boyfriend, society would blame her and her parents. But what about Ketan's parents? She did not think what they will go through,' she said.
She added: 'Why saying NO is more difficult than taking someone's life? We want justice for Ketan.' The case remains under investigation, and Siya Goyal has been named as the accused in the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal.
