Director Puri Jagannadh revealed at a teaser launch event in Chennai on 9 June that his upcoming action drama 'Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road', led by actor Vijay Sethupathi, is grounded in true incidents — drawing from the largely invisible lives of beggars on Indian streets. The film is currently in its final stages of post-production and is gearing up for release across multiple language versions.

Speaking at the teaser launch, Jagannadh was candid about the film's emotional core. 'The Slumdog is based on true incidents. Real incidents. And real emotion is there in the film. When we come across beggars, we ignore them. We don't notice, we don't focus on them. But we know there are a lot of stories behind them. There's a lot of emotion there. We don't know who are those beggars actually,' he said.

He added that while the film is packed with action, it is equally — if not more — driven by emotion. 'This is an emotional movie,' Jagannadh emphasised, describing it as a deliberate balance between high-octane sequences and heartfelt storytelling.

Made for Gen Z, With Families in Mind

Jagannadh made a pointed remark about the film's intended audience, saying it was crafted specifically for Gen Z viewers. 'I feel the Gen Z guys are more disciplined than the previous generation. They're more emotional also,' he said, urging young audiences to watch the film with their families. The comment signals a conscious effort to position the film as a multigenerational watch rather than a niche action release.
