Kolkata, April 20 (NationPress) Spin is anticipated to be pivotal when the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders face off against the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans in Match 39 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens this Monday.

With talented spinners such as Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine in the home team's lineup and Rashid Khan alongside Sai Kishore for the Gujarat Titans, the stage is set for an engaging contest. Furthermore, the pitch at Eden Gardens is expected to favor slow bowlers, turning it into a duel of spin.

Carl Crowe, the spin-bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders, acknowledged that spin could significantly influence the match's outcome.

"Certainly, there are numerous sub-battles within the game. We cannot underestimate Rashid Khan; he is a world-class bowler. However, we are confident in the spinners we have in our squad," said Crowe.

"Spin will be a crucial factor, as it always has been at Eden Gardens. We will continue to support our spinners," he added.

When asked to compare his spinners to those of the opposition, Crowe expressed satisfaction with their consistent performance.

"We are quite pleased with our spinners. They work exceptionally hard, demonstrating not only good economy and strike rates but also consistent performances for us," commented Crowe, who noted that spinners can bowl in any phase of the game—be it power-play, death overs, or middle overs—and it is the captain's responsibility to utilize them wisely.

KKR enters this match following an underwhelming display against the Punjab Kings at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, where they fell short of chasing a modest target of 112, finishing at just 95 runs—the lowest total in IPL history.

Crowe mentioned that they conducted their usual review post-match, emphasizing the need to maintain balance after both victories and defeats.

"As I previously stated, our reviews remain consistent. Players engage in small reviews both individually and collectively with coaches, and it is essential to avoid becoming overly elated after a win or excessively down after a loss.

"Looking back at that match, we bowled exceptionally well, restricting them to 111 runs. At the halfway mark, we were in a strong position, but our batting in the latter part of the innings faltered. If we over-analyze one quarter of a game without considering the earlier phases where we excelled, we might find ourselves in a tough spot," explained Crowe.

"Consistency in our approach and mindset, along with a positive outlook, is crucial for elite athletes, and we are no different," he stated.

Crowe also expressed enthusiasm about Abhishek Nayar's return to the support staff after his previous tenure with the national team.

"He has been a longstanding member of the franchise and is well-liked among the coaching staff. The players have maintained communication with him over the years, so his return is fantastic and will undoubtedly have a positive impact. The players value the support he provides, and it's great to have him back with us," Crowe said.

"Last year, we were champions, and he played a significant role in that success. His insights into the game are excellent, and he has built strong relationships with the players, who are thrilled to have him back with KKR. His presence will certainly be a significant advantage for us," concluded Crowe.
