Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), March 19 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party representative S.T. Hasan criticized the film "Dhurandhar 2" on Thursday for depicting the late SP MP Atiq Ahmed as having direct connections with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He labeled the portrayal as a publicity stunt intended to draw in viewers.
In a statement to IANS, Hasan mentioned that neither intelligence agencies nor the police have confirmed any such connections as of now.
"Our police are well aware of who was linked to whom. Whether it was the ISI, CIA, or KGB, no revelations have been made by our intelligence agencies or police," Hasan remarked.
He emphasized that narratives in films should not be mistaken for factual information.
"Although our intelligence and police have not disclosed any such connections, we can never predict what these filmmakers might assert about others," he added.
Hasan further accused filmmakers of exploiting controversial subjects for publicity to guarantee the commercial success of their movies.
"As media highlights these topics, public interest spikes, leading to increased viewership. This is a tactic employed by the industry. I suspect filmmakers may even receive funds from political entities to incite animosity," Hasan asserted.
Moreover, he criticized filmmakers for allegedly prioritizing box office success over ethical considerations. "They seem indifferent to the reputational harm they cause. All they care about is the film's success," he stated.
In a similar vein, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan condemned the film, asserting that cinema is being used to sow divisions.
"There are attempts to propagate hatred within the nation. In the past, numerous propaganda films have been produced," Pathan commented.
The uproar began following the release of "Dhurandhar 2", which has faced backlash from various political figures over its portrayal of criminal and political personalities and supposed ties to foreign intelligence agencies.
