Chennai, Oct 26 (NationPress) M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and president of the DMK, has made serious allegations against the BJP and AIADMK, claiming they are attempting to manipulate the electoral lists via the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This move is purportedly designed to disenfranchise working-class voters, Scheduled Castes, minorities, and women in the lead-up to the 2026 State Assembly elections.
In a statement released on Sunday, Stalin remarked that the BJP and AIADMK lack the capability to confront the electorate directly during elections, resorting instead to the removal of voters’ names for an unfair edge. “Their strategy in Tamil Nadu will backfire,” he asserted.
Stalin further claimed that the BJP, in collaboration with the ECI, has already purged approximately 65 lakh voter names in Bihar and is now attempting to replicate this in Tamil Nadu. “We, the DMK and the INDIA bloc, have been alerting the public that the BJP, with ECI's assistance, is indulging in such anti-democratic actions,” he stated.
The Chief Minister indicated that the DMK has already reached out to the ECI, requesting the cessation of the SIR process. “If the Commission chooses to proceed, it must at least provide adequate time for ensuring accuracy and preventing disenfranchisement. Should they ignore our plea, the DMK will explore every legal option and stand with the public against it,” Stalin warned.
Emphasizing the DMK’s outreach initiative ‘Oraniyil Tamil Nadu’ (Tamil Nadu under One Camp), Stalin highlighted its role in educating citizens about the benefits of government welfare schemes across all societal segments. “Even though the BJP-led Centre has withheld due funds from Tamil Nadu, the DMK administration has upheld its commitments through various welfare initiatives. We have successfully registered two crore members, but our mission is not yet complete,” he remarked.
Urging party members to stay alert, the Chief Minister claimed that the SIR is being exploited as a political tool to eliminate legitimate voters. “The AIADMK, having aligned itself with the BJP, shows little concern for the rights of the populace. It is the DMK and the INDIA bloc that must protect the voting rights of Tamil Nadu’s citizens,” he concluded.
