Is Stalin Opening Doors for Non-Allies at the Nov 2 All-Party Meeting on SIR?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Oct 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK president, M.K. Stalin, has instructed his party to send invitations not only to their alliance partners but also to political figures beyond the DMK-led coalition for an all-party meeting slated for November 2. This gathering aims to discuss the Election Commission’s special voter roll revision in the State.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revealed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Tamil Nadu’s electoral rolls will kick off on November 4. The DMK and its allies have expressed strong opposition to this initiative, claiming it may be politically motivated.
In light of this, Stalin has called for an all-party meeting at the Accord Star Hotel in Chennai on Saturday to strategize a unified response.
Following the Chief Minister’s directive, senior DMK officials, including headquarters secretary Poochi Murugan, Port Kaja, and Austin, have been actively visiting various political party offices to deliver invitation letters.
DMK’s P. Murugan met with TVK general secretary Pusi Anand at the party office in Panayur to extend an invitation. He also reached out to Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan, TMC chief G.K. Vasan, DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol. Thirumavalavan, alongside actor-politician Karunas from the Mukkulathor Tiger Force, as well as representatives from the Communist Party of India and CPI(M), to formally extend invitations.
Another DMK team, led by general secretary Harupram Kaja, delivered invites to Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Selvaperunthagai, Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman, MDMK leader Vaiko, Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi leader Easwaran, Tamil Nadu Vazhvurimai Katchi’s Velmurugan, IUML’s Kader Moideen, Nellai Mubarak, Thameemun Ansari, Jawahirullah, and Jana Pandian, among others. DMK functionary Austin has also been distributing invitation letters throughout Chennai.
Reports indicate that invitations have been sent to roughly 60 political leaders, including PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss, AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam, Pon Kumar, and Basheer Ahmed.
However, DMK sources clarified that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran, and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss were the only three leaders excluded from the invitation list.
In the meantime, political analysts suggest that TVK leader Vijay’s party executives are likely to attend, despite his recent pointed criticisms of both the DMK and Stalin.
