Thiruvananthapuram, May 4 (NationPress) K. Sudhakaran, president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and a prominent leader, asserted on Sunday that he will not resign from his position until the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, headed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, is ousted from its role in governance.
During a press briefing, Sudhakaran, who previously served as a minister in the AK Antony-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government, stated, “I will only step down as KPCC president following our success in removing the LDF from power. This is my unequivocal political stance, and I have already conveyed this to the party leadership.”
This declaration comes in light of rumors suggesting that the Congress high command is contemplating a leadership transition in anticipation of the upcoming Nilambur by-election.
Party insiders indicated that Anto Antony, MP from Pathanamthitta, and Sunny Joseph, MLA from Peravoor, are being evaluated as potential successors. However, Sudhakaran chose not to comment on the prospective candidates.
“I have the unwavering support of the public and Congress workers. Nevertheless, I am dedicated to accepting any decision made by the High Command,” he added.
When addressing rumors regarding his health, Sudhakaran dismissed them entirely. Referring to his recent involvement in public events across Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, he asserted, “I am in excellent health. The claims about my health issues are unfounded.”
The KPCC chief also criticized certain media outlets for allegedly disseminating misinformation about his health and the possibility of a leadership shift.
He revealed that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had recently met with him for discussions.
“If the leadership intended to remove me, they wouldn’t have invited me for discussions. Rahul Gandhi even welcomed me warmly with a hug. I am fit and will continue to serve the party,” Sudhakaran stated.
Support for Sudhakaran from senior Congress figures such as Ramesh Chennithala and MP Shashi Tharoor has been vocal, affirming that he should remain as the Kerala Congress chief.
In the meantime, posters mocking potential KPCC candidates have surfaced in the Ernakulam district, indicating discontent among certain party factions. Former KPCC president K. Muraleedharan also commented, asserting there is no valid reason for Sudhakaran to resign at this time.
