New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 28 (NationPress) Following a lengthy session with the party's high command in New Delhi, it has been determined that K. Sudhakaran will retain his position as head of the Congress unit in Kerala, with a strong emphasis on securing victory in next year's Assembly elections.

The gathering of state leaders in Delhi was convened to address the perceived tensions among the state leadership and to strategize for the upcoming elections. This meeting took place at Indira Bhawan, the Congress's newly established headquarters in New Delhi.

“Congress President @kharge, along with LoP @RahulGandhi and Congress General Secretary (Org) @kcvenugopalmp, led a pivotal meeting focused on Kerala's issues. Senior leaders from the Kerala Congress were also in attendance,” the Congress stated on X.

As per reports, the party's high command has firmly cautioned the state unit against public discussions regarding internal party matters, including any disagreements.

“It is regrettable that media narratives suggested my removal without adequate defense from the state unit. I have no conflicts with Kerala's Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan,” expressed a visibly emotional Sudhakaran.

Subsequently, K. Venugopal informed reporters that this meeting would be remembered as one of the most effective held with top Kerala party leaders.

“Transformations are essential in Kerala. The Congress has laid the foundation for development and welfare in the state, and we will strive to restore our UDF to power. Next year, the electorate will reject both oppressive and communal factions,” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated on X.

The internal discord within the state leadership arose following talks of a leadership change and an interview where Shashi Tharoor commended PM Modi's visit to the US and the governance style of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

During the meeting, Tharoor clarified that his interview was significantly misquoted.

“I will always stand by Congress. The media distorted my comments. We will focus on party efforts to secure success in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Tharoor remarked after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stated that he has received feedback from grassroots levels in Kerala.

“It does not bode well for Congress when the entire nation anticipates the UDF's return to provide effective governance for the people of Kerala,” the LoP articulated.

The meeting concluded with the high command directing the state unit to devise a strategy for the forthcoming local body elections and the 2026 Assembly elections.
