Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 25 (NationPress) After a period of speculation regarding the Congress party's Kerala unit, clarity has emerged—state president K. Sudhakaran will remain in his role.
Insiders close to Sudhakaran have indicated that the party's high command has confirmed he will not be ousted, and that any significant decisions will involve his input.
The uncertainty was sparked when Deepa Das Munshi, the AICC General Secretary overseeing Kerala, conducted individual meetings with various senior state leaders. This led to rumors that Sudhakaran, who is also the Member of Parliament from Kannur, might resign due to health issues.
A major factor in the speculation was the escalating tension between Sudhakaran and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan. At one point, there were discussions about a leadership overhaul that could include replacing both prominent figures.
Nevertheless, Satheesan has rejected such claims, asserting that there is no discord within the party.
“There is absolutely no difference of opinion between Sudhakaran and me. Just yesterday, we discussed these rumors and found them amusing. In the Congress party, unlike the CPI(M), even senior leaders encounter criticism. If I’m criticized, I respond with an explanation. The media has completely misconstrued the situation,” Satheesan explained.
Former state president Ramesh Chennithala also downplayed the leadership rumors, stating that the choice of a new state party president is solely up to the high command.
“There’s no need for state-level discussions on this matter,” Chennithala remarked.
Furthermore, K. Muraleedharan, a former state president and son of the veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran, dismissed rumors concerning Sudhakaran’s health, further alleviating concerns.
With media speculation now diminishing, the Congress party in Kerala seems to have shifted its attention to the forthcoming local body elections scheduled for the latter half of 2025, aiming to present a strong front.
