Mumbai, Jan 7 (NationPress) In the midst of a verbal clash between the BJP and NCP’s Ajit Pawar following comments regarding an irrigation scandal, the state NCP chief, Sunil Tatkare, has sought to minimize the tension between the two factions, asserting that there will be no further struggles among the ruling allies.

Tatkare informed the press that he has had multiple discussions with party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, as well as with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, to prevent any escalation or confrontational rhetoric.

“I acknowledge the statements exchanged by Ajit Pawar and BJP members, including Bawankule and Ravindra Chavan. To prevent any future heated exchanges, I engaged with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar twice and also reached out to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. This initiative was intended to maintain cordial relations among the Mahayuti allies, despite the fact that we are contesting the civic elections separately in some municipal corporations,” Tatkare stated.

He emphasized that the Mahayuti alliance remains strong at the state level and suggested that following the elections for 29 municipal corporations on January 16 and 17, the alliance partners would celebrate together.

Tatkare's outreach to the Chief Minister and Revenue Minister comes in light of heightened tensions, particularly after the BJP criticized Ajit Pawar for choosing candidates with criminal histories.

Clearly annoyed by these accusations, Deputy CM Pawar retaliated by targeting Union Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol and reviving past controversies.

In a provocative statement, Ajit Pawar remarked that he is currently part of the government alongside individuals who previously accused him of a Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scandal.

Political analysts opined that by resurrecting this old issue, he might have inadvertently provided the BJP with new ammunition.

The BJP leadership responded with vigor to these remarks.

BJP state president Ravindra Chavan bluntly stated that the party “regrets having collaborated with Ajit Pawar.”

Revenue Minister Bawankule cautioned Deputy CM Pawar that “if we revisit history, Ajit Pawar will find himself at a loss for words,” stressing that such remarks should have been avoided. He also reminded Deputy CM Pawar that the irrigation scandal case remains unresolved in the courts.

Insiders from the NCP noted that Sunil Tatkare's role has been pivotal as a “negotiator and stabilizer.”

While Bawankule has adopted a more aggressive approach to safeguard the BJP’s “big brother” status and “clean image,” Tatkare has managed to balance his loyalty to Ajit Pawar with the pragmatic need to remain within the Mahayuti framework, thereby avoiding total isolation.

Point of View

It is essential to recognize the intricate balance of power within Maharashtra's political framework. Sunil Tatkare’s efforts to mediate between the BJP and NCP reflect a broader understanding of the necessity for cooperation among ruling allies, especially as civic elections approach. The evolving dynamics warrant close observation.
