Director Aishwarya Rajinikanth's much-anticipated Tamil film Texla has officially commenced principal photography in Chennai, production house Kannan Ravi Groups (KRG) confirmed on 2 June. The multi-lingual project stars Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramudu and Tamil actor Jai in the lead roles, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Shoot Begins, Production House Confirms

KRG announced the development across its social media handles, sharing a behind-the-scenes video of filming in progress. The production house wrote: 'Every frame starts with a belief. The film, previously referred to as #KRG09, was formally launched at a grand pooja ceremony held at the Leela Palace, Chennai, in March 2025. The launch was attended by the full cast and crew, along with celebrities including actor-director Seeman and Samuthirakani.

Cast and Character Details

According to sources close to the unit, Suraj Venjaramudu will portray the father of Jai's character in the film. George Maryan, widely praised for his performance in the blockbuster Dragon, is set to play a pivotal role. The casting of Venjaramudu — a critically acclaimed name in Malayalam cinema — alongside Jai signals the film's cross-regional appeal.

The Title Teaser and Its Mood

KRG had earlier unveiled the title through a teaser that set a nostalgic, evocative tone. The teaser depicted a group of children in a thatched hut waiting anxiously, with a man at the entrance watching rain-laden skies. When the sun finally breaks through, he uses a shard of glass to reflect sunlight onto a cloth screen, projecting the name 'Texla' — drawing jubilant cheers from the boys. The imagery suggests themes of childhood wonder, community, and perhaps the magic of early cinema.

Scale and Release Plans

Texla is planned as a grand multi-lingual release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, targeting pan-India audiences. KRG described the project as 'a wholesome and sure-shot entertainer' promising 'a powerful and engaging cinematic experience for viewers of all backgrounds.' Yuvan Shankar Raja, one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated composers, has been confirmed as the music director — a pairing that has historically generated strong pre-release buzz for any project.

This marks Aishwarya Rajinikanth's return to direction after a gap, and the film's five-language release strategy underlines KRG's ambitions for Texla to travel well beyond Tamil Nadu. With shoot now underway, the next milestone to watch is the film's first look or a theatrical trailer.
