Thane, April 8 (NationPress) Social media influencer Priya Singh, who survived a nearly fatal attack allegedly orchestrated by her boyfriend Ashwajit Gaikwad, is still fighting for justice over a year after the incident.

The 26-year-old Priya sustained serious injuries when her boyfriend, the son of a prominent bureaucrat, intentionally struck her with his vehicle in December 2023. The incident, which occurred in Thane, captured national attention due to the severe nature of the crime and the involvement of an influential family.

Despite the passage of more than a year, the victim continues to seek justice from the police.

In an interview with IANS, Priya recounted her struggles, asserting that the state apparatus is showing bias toward the bureaucrat's son, leaving her without her deserved justice.

“I have been going from place to place, but the police have yet to file a chargesheet. I feel mentally drained,” she shared with IANS.

“If it were anyone else from a regular background, they would have been arrested by now. However, due to his powerful connections, he is enjoying all the privileges while I suffer,” she further expressed, her tone filled with despair.

Recently, she reported receiving multiple death threats and mentioned receiving warnings about possible 'dire consequences' from unidentified sources.

She also called for an investigation into Ashwajit Gaikwad’s father, a senior official in the Maharashtra government, who has close ties to top decision-makers, including the Chief Minister's Office.

After enduring a life-threatening encounter with her boyfriend in December 2023, Priya provided her statement to the Thane police, detailing the horrifying events of that night. She described how an argument escalated into violence, with Gaikwad physically assaulting her, attempting to strangle her, and ultimately instructing a friend to run her down.

Despite filing a police report, her struggles did not end there. The police failed to document her statement for several months, despite her repeated attempts to follow up.

The Maharashtra Police’s slow response to her complaint led to criticism from the Bombay High Court, which expressed concern over the mishandling of her case and reprimanded the police for not recording her supplementary statement.

The High Court also expressed astonishment at the fact that the investigating officer seemed more focused on filing a claim for damages before the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) than on investigating her case.
