Alirajpur (Madhya Pradesh), July 15 (NationPress) – The son of Congress MLA Sena Mahesh Patel has been charged with attempted murder and destruction of public property in the Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, as reported by police on Tuesday.
Mahesh Patel, who currently serves as the MLA for the Jobat Assembly constituency in Alirajpur, has his son, Pushpraj Patel, accused of trying to run over two police constables with an SUV during a chaotic late-night incident on July 13.
The police initiated the case following the emergence of CCTV footage from the incident that circulated on social media late Monday night.
The footage depicts a black SUV being driven at a reckless speed. As the vehicle approached a road junction, it seemed to head directly towards the two constables, who had to leap aside to avoid being hit.
One constable was knocked to the ground and suffered injuries. The SUV eventually crashed into an iron electric pole, coming to a stop.
According to police reports, the vehicle, which lacked a registration number plate, ignored signals to halt from the patrolling officers. After the collision, several individuals exited the vehicle and fled the scene. The injured constable is currently receiving medical attention at the district hospital.
Constable Rakesh Gujariya identified Pushpraj Patel as one of the individuals in the SUV. Based on both his statement and the video evidence, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed on Monday.
Pushpraj, along with two accomplices, has been charged with offenses related to destruction of public property and obstructing public officials.
“An FIR has been filed, and further investigations are ongoing,” stated a senior police official.
This incident is not Pushpraj Patel's first run-in with the law. In September 2024, he was charged with abetment to suicide following the tragic death of a 25-year-old woman, Damini Thakur, in Alirajpur.
Her family accused Pushpraj of harassing her and pressuring her into marriage, claiming she took her life due to repeated threats.
