The victim, identified as Col Anil Yadav (retd), was driving alone on the evening of February 21 after visiting his ill father at Medanta Hospital in Sector 5, en route to Sector 60, when his vehicle allegedly brushed against another car, leading to a confrontation.
As per the complaint submitted by the retired officer, six youths in the other vehicle halted him and allegedly began to physically assault him.
The assailants reportedly punched him, shattered the windshield and lights of his car, and inflicted severe damage to the vehicle using beer bottles.
They also allegedly attempted to force him into their car for an abduction, but their efforts were thwarted due to heavy traffic on the road.
The suspects then allegedly coerced him into transferring Rs 30,000 via a UPI transaction before fleeing the scene as traffic congestion increased, according to the complaint.
Col Yadav sustained injuries during the attack and was transported to Artemis Hospital, where he received urgent medical care before being discharged.
The retired officer later expressed his grievances on the social media platform X, alleging delays in police response and claiming that his statement was not recorded in a timely manner, with no FIR filed immediately following the incident.
His social media post garnered significant attention, prompting Gurugram Police to file an FIR at the Sector 50 Police Station on February 23 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), encompassing accusations of assault, extortion, criminal intimidation, and property damage.
Following the complaint, police apprehended five suspects identified as Pankaj (23), Vikas (21), and Nikhil (21), all from Rewari district, along with Sahil (22) and Ankit Kumar (22), hailing from Mahendergarh district.
Authorities revealed that the suspects attended a wedding event in Badshahpur on the night of the incident.
According to investigators, three of the detainees are employed at a private firm in Rewari, while the others are students.
One suspect remains on the run, and efforts are currently in progress to locate and apprehend him.
Police confirmed that further investigations into the case are ongoing.
