New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) A Brigadier of the Indian Army and his son were reportedly attacked by a group of men in the Vasant Enclave area of South Delhi after they confronted two individuals who were drinking alcohol inside a stationary car, according to officials.

The incident is said to have occurred on April 11 at approximately 10:00 p.m. on a Saturday night.

The Brigadier, who is currently stationed in Gujarat but resides in Delhi with his family, explained that the confrontation began when he was out for an evening stroll with his son following dinner. They encountered two men in a parked vehicle consuming alcohol, which prompted the Brigadier to voice his disapproval, leading to a heated exchange.

In a statement to IANS, the Brigadier recounted that after dinner, while walking outside his residence, he noticed two individuals drinking in a car. Upon objecting, tensions escalated between the parties involved.

He called the police via a PCR van, which arrived about 20 minutes later. However, the occupants of the vehicle had already summoned their associates, who then allegedly attacked his son. The Brigadier claimed he was also physically manhandled when he attempted to intervene.

Following the incident, the Brigadier went to the Vasant Vihar police station seeking assistance but was met with indifference. The police requested a Medico Legal Certificate (MLC), yet no officers accompanied him to the hospital. He ultimately went to RR Hospital alone to obtain the MLC. Despite having the MLC, the police did not file a First Information Report (FIR), opting only to make a General Diary entry.

The Indian Army has taken serious note of this incident and has initiated measures to support the officer involved. A team from the Military Police has been assigned to assist him, and the Delhi Police has been contacted to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action.

In the meantime, Colonel Danvir Singh expressed his concerns regarding the incident on the social media platform X, stating, “I just spoke to the Brigadier…. A serving soldier who, after dinner, was taking a walk outside the society premises with his IITian son.”

“These individuals in a Mercedes-Benz were drinking in public. After being confronted, the Brigadier and his son were assaulted by the 7-8 associates of these anti-social elements who were close by and called in by the duo in the car,” he added.

“Both the Brigadier and his son suffered injuries during the altercation. It is shocking to note that the police were present yet took no action. The conduct observed from both the society and the police in the national capital is appalling,” he further remarked.

Colonel Singh also highlighted the officer's distinguished service, mentioning, “The Brigadier has participated in numerous operations in the hinterland of Kashmir and also across the Line of Control. Never would he have imagined that one day he would find himself on the receiving end of violence in a society he once protected, while the police stood by as mere spectators.”

He later noted, “An FIR has finally been filed after considerable effort, offering a glimmer of hope. I trust that justice will be served and that the perpetrators will be dealt with accordingly to deter other anti-social elements.”
