New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) - The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, T.S. Sandhu, has shown significant concern regarding a recent incident in Vasant Enclave where a serving Brigadier of the Indian Army, along with his wife and their son, a 23-year-old IIT Delhi graduate, were assaulted. He has instructed the Delhi Police to ensure comprehensive security measures for the officer and his family.
In a message posted on X, Sandhu stated, “I am extremely troubled by the assault incident involving a serving Brigadier of the Indian Army, his wife, and their son, who is a graduate from IIT Delhi.”
Additionally, he mentioned that he personally reached out to the Brigadier to discuss the incident and check on their well-being.
“I have also communicated with the Police Commissioner and DCP, urging them to conduct a thorough and prompt investigation, ensuring that those responsible face immediate and suitable consequences,” added the Delhi L-G.
He emphasized the need for the Delhi Police to provide unwavering security to the officer and his family, stating, “Our commitment remains steadfast in safeguarding our citizens and upholding the rule of law.”
In the meantime, an FIR has been filed, and authorities are looking into potential shortcomings in the initial police response. Preliminary investigations have identified the main suspect as Satinder Kumar, a resident of Mehram Nagar, reportedly linked to an aviation company.
The incident occurred when the Brigadier was out for a walk with his son after dinner on Saturday night. They noticed two men in a parked white Mercedes, consuming alcohol. Upon the officer's objection, a confrontation ensued between them.
Officials reported that the Brigadier and his son were assaulted by a group after they raised concerns about the men drinking alcohol in their neighborhood. This altercation reportedly took place on April 11 at around 10 p.m.
On Monday, the family of the senior army officer expressed their discontent over the lack of immediate police support, claiming that action only commenced after the incident was escalated through defense channels.
In a conversation with IANS, the officer's wife detailed the events, stating: “The situation escalated as two individuals were found drinking alcohol in a white Mercedes. After dinner, when my husband and son went for a walk, they objected, explaining that such behavior isn't acceptable in a residential area. The individuals responded inappropriately. We did not retaliate but called the PCR. Unfortunately, the PCR took time to arrive. By the time they did, the assailants had shown up in two cars and assaulted my husband and son.”
