Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, March 2 (NationPress) - Police apprehended Vishal Gurjar, a former Youth Congress member and nephew of ex-Congress MLA Himmatsinh Patel, late Sunday night, for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and colliding with two parked cars in Maninagar, Ahmedabad.
The incident occurred near the City Corner Hotel, adjacent to the Maninagar Police Station, between 11 PM and 1 AM.
Officials reported that the vehicle crashed into two cars parked along the roadway. One of the cars exhibited significant damage, while a motorcycle was overturned due to the impact.
Gurjar is related to former Congress MLA Himmatsinh Patel, a prominent figure who has previously held the positions of President of the Ahmedabad City Congress Committee and Mayor of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in the early 2000s.
Local residents gathered at the scene shortly after the collision. Responding personnel from the Maninagar Police Station, including Police Inspector Y.J. Rathod, arrived to manage the situation.
Inspector S.N. Patel confirmed the timing of the incident, stating, “The driver was found to be intoxicated, leading to a case being filed under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act for drunk driving and Section 66(1)(b) of the Prohibition Act.”
Gurjar was subsequently released on bail as per legal protocol. The police noted that the vehicle was equipped with tinted windows and bore an NSUI plate at the time of the incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the use of the black film and the NSUI plate. So far, no complaints have been lodged by the owners of the affected vehicles.
“Further legal proceedings will follow as mandated by law,” stated Inspector Patel.
A similar incident occurred in 2022 when a Youth Congress district president in Vadodara was apprehended for drunk driving during a highway patrol.
