Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 17 (NationPress) Shashi Tharoor, a four-time Congress MP representing Thiruvananthapuram, surprised many on Wednesday by sending birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday. This gesture might raise eyebrows within his party, especially considering Tharoor's previous comments that praised the PM, which received criticism from some Congress members.

On the social media platform X, Tharoor expressed: “Wishing Prime Minister @narendramodi a very happy birthday. May the year ahead be filled with good health, happiness, and continued success in the service of the nation.”

As PM Modi celebrated his milestone birthday, messages of goodwill flooded in from leaders across the political landscape.

Earlier this year, Tharoor referred to PM Modi as “undoubtedly the most dominant political figure in the country,” noting his enduring appeal among substantial voter segments.

This statement drew backlash from certain factions within Congress, with some questioning the appropriateness and political ramifications of such remarks.

However, Tharoor clarified that recognizing political realities is not synonymous with endorsing government policies and emphasized the importance of maintaining personal civility amid political disagreements. His relationship with his party has been strained, particularly after the Central government appointed him to lead an all-party parliamentary delegation to the U.S. and other nations as part of the Operation Sindoor diplomatic initiative following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Although Congress did not nominate him, he proceeded with the mission.

His comments on PM Modi continue to resonate both within and outside the party, highlighting the delicate nature of political messaging ahead of upcoming elections.

Celebrations for the Prime Minister’s birthday spanned the nation, as the BJP organized various welfare initiatives, health camps, and outreach programs.

Earlier in the day, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also conveyed his wishes, despite significant ideological differences. In a message shared on X, Vijayan stated: “Warm birthday wishes to Hon’ble PM @narendramodi. Wishing you good health and happiness.”
