Srinagar, June 27 (NationPress) The J&K Police apprehended three individuals on Friday for their suspected involvement in activities detrimental to the nation's security and sovereignty, according to officials.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Irfan Mohiuddin Dar from Sangrampora Sopore, Mohd Asif Khan from Harwan Bomai, and Gowhar Maqbool Rather from Hardushiva. They had been reportedly under close observation for a period, with officials noting that they have been charged under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

The police disclosed that these individuals were allegedly utilizing encrypted communication methods, such as VOIP and VPN networks, to maintain contact with terrorist handlers across the border.

Despite having multiple FIRs filed against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the police claimed that they continued to incite local youth towards anti-national activities discreetly.

“Following prolonged surveillance and the collection of evidence, detention orders were issued by the appropriate authority, resulting in all three being transferred to Kot Bhalwal Jail,” added the police statement.

The Sopore Police reaffirmed their unyielding position against what they classify as subversive activities, stating, “We are vigilant. Anyone attempting to disrupt peace or security will encounter the full force of the law.”

They also expressed gratitude to the peace-loving citizens of Sopore for their support and encouraged ongoing public cooperation to preserve the hard-earned peace of the valley.

In the wake of the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians lost their lives due to an assault by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Baisaran meadow, the army, security forces, and J&K Police are on heightened alert against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

Intelligence reports suggest that OGWs and sympathizers provide logistical support to terrorists, and their activities form the foundation of terrorism.

Additionally, drug smugglers and peddlers are also under scrutiny, as agencies believe that the proceeds from these activities ultimately finance and sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Point of View

It is imperative to recognize the challenges faced by law enforcement in countering anti-national activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing vigilance against terrorism highlights the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace. The actions taken by the J&K Police demonstrate a proactive approach to safeguarding the sovereignty of our nation while emphasizing the need for unity in the fight against terrorism.
