Srinagar, Jan 11 (NationPress) Three individuals involved in drug trafficking were apprehended, and illegal substances were seized from them during two distinct operations in the Sopore district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to police reports released on Sunday.

As part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, Sopore Police has detained three drug peddlers in separate NDPS cases throughout Police District Sopore, resulting in the confiscation of contraband items and the filing of multiple FIRs.

In the first incident, officers from Police Station Bomai set up a checkpoint on the Nathipora–Tujjer link road. During the inspection, a suspicious individual attempted to escape but was successfully caught.

Upon conducting a search, authorities found a substance resembling 'charas' in his possession. The suspect was identified as Umar Mohammad, a resident of Sheikhpora Tujjer.

As a result, FIR No. 03/2026 was registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at PS Bomai, and an investigation commenced.

In a separate case, officers from Police Post Warpora established another checkpoint at Poultry Crossing on Dangerpora Road, where two suspicious individuals tried to evade inspection but were tactfully apprehended.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been conducting rigorous operations aimed at dismantling drug smuggling networks, targeting drug peddlers, and addressing hawala money operations and other illicit financial activities.

Authorities believe that the funds generated from these illegal activities are utilized to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Drug traffickers, peddlers, and individuals involved in hawala money operations face detention under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Furthermore, police have also begun seizing properties acquired through proceeds from these unlawful ventures.

These property seizures are executed following court orders.

Anti-drug operations are coordinated alongside local police and security forces as part of a broader strategy to counter terrorist activities and their support networks, including over-ground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers.

This unified approach aims to dismantle the entire support system of terrorism instead of merely focusing on armed terrorists.

Point of View

It's crucial that law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to dismantle these networks, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
