Srinagar, Oct 3 (NationPress) The police in J&K’s Sopore sub-division announced on Friday that they have apprehended two individuals engaged in drug trafficking under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
According to a police statement, two habitual drug dealers were detained as part of an intensified crackdown on narcotics in the area.
The individuals have been identified as Umar Farooq Sheikh, son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Seeloo Sopore, who is currently jailed at Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, and Abdul Hamid Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir, a resident of Janwara Sopore, who is held at District Jail Poonch.
Officials indicated that both suspects have a history of multiple NDPS cases against them. Despite prior arrests and preventive actions, they persist in their drug trafficking activities.
In the past four days alone, six repeat offenders have been charged under the PIT NDPS Act, alongside six other arrests made in three distinct FIRs under the NDPS Act, resulting in the seizure of contraband.
Sopore Police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on narcotics and encouraged local residents to report any drug-related activities to foster a drug-free Sopore.
