Yangon, Jan 2 (NationPress) Three Indian nationals have been successfully repatriated from the cyber scam centres located in Myawaddy, Myanmar, as confirmed by the Embassy of India in Yangon on Friday. This operation was made possible through collaboration with local Myanmar authorities and various organizations.
"Thanks to the cooperation of Myanmar authorities and organizations, three additional Indian nationals from the Myawaddy scam centres were repatriated through Yangon yesterday. To date, a total of 2171 Indian nationals have been brought back since July 2022, with 1757 repatriated since July 2024. We strongly caution against such dubious job offers," the Indian Embassy in Yangon stated on social media.
Previously, on November 19, a significant number of 125 Indian nationals were returned from Thailand's Mae Sot to India on a special flight operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The individuals who were deported had been detained in Mae Sot after crossing from Myanmar's Myawaddy, where they were reportedly involved in cyber scam activities.
According to the Indian Embassy in Bangkok, this latest repatriation has increased the total number of Indians freed from scam centres in Myawaddy and repatriated through Thailand to 1500 since March.
In line with the Indian Government's commitment to ensuring the safe return of citizens ensnared in scam operations across South-East Asia, the Embassy of India in Bangkok and the Indian Consulate in Chiang Mai have been working closely with various Thai government agencies and the administration of Tak Province to facilitate these repatriations.
“Indian citizens are strongly encouraged to verify the credentials of foreign employers and scrutinize the backgrounds of recruitment agents and companies before accepting job offers abroad. It is also crucial to note that visa-free entry into Thailand for Indian passport holders is intended strictly for tourism and short-term business purposes and should not be exploited for employment,” the Embassy of India in Bangkok advised through their social media account.
Moreover, 269 Indian nationals, including 11 women, were repatriated just one day earlier from Mae Sot on two special flights operated by the IAF.
The Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate of India in Chiang Mai, in collaboration with various agencies of the Royal Thai Government and the administration of Tak Province, have played a pivotal role in facilitating the repatriation process.
