Jaipur, Feb 28 (NationPress) The final rites for Chalti Devi, the mother of Tika Ram Jully, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, were conducted on Saturday evening in his native village, Kathuwas (Behror).
During the ceremony, Jully lit the funeral pyre for his mother, aged 90, and was visibly emotional. Ashok Gehlot, the former Chief Minister, offered him a comforting embrace during this sorrowful occasion.
Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh also provided solace as Jully shed tears. Chalti Devi passed away on Friday evening in Jaipur.
She had been living with her son and was taken to Sawai Man Singh Hospital after her health worsened due to a fall in the bathroom.
Doctors pronounced her dead upon her arrival. Her body was brought back to Kathuwas late Friday night, and the cremation took place around 5 PM on Saturday in a local field.
A significant number of public officials, Congress leaders, party workers, and local residents gathered to pay their respects at the funeral.
During the procession, Ashok Gehlot, Jitendra Singh, and Govind Singh Dotasra, the President of the Rajasthan Congress, carried the bier and offered floral tributes before the final rites were conducted.
Numerous senior political figures visited Jully’s home to express their condolences, including Vasudev Devnani, the Assembly Speaker, Minister Sanjay Sharma, and various MLAs and former MLAs from both Rajasthan and Haryana. National leaders also shared their sorrow.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, reached out to Jully via phone to extend his condolences. Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress National President, along with General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, also expressed their sympathies.
Haribhau Bagde, the Governor of Rajasthan, called to offer his condolences to the grieving family. Congress MLAs, district leaders, and party workers from across the state converged in Kathuwas to show their support and solidarity with the bereaved family.
