Did TMC Suspend MLA Humayun Kabir for Proposing Babri Masjid?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress on Saturday emphasized that the rebel MLA Humayun Kabir was not removed due to his proposal to construct a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, but rather for his continued issuance of anti-party remarks over several months.
TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh stated that Kabir’s suspension had no ties to religious matters or the foundation-laying ceremony in Murshidabad.
He explained, "In West Bengal, anyone is free to build a temple, mosque, church, or any place of worship. No one should be expelled or face punitive actions for that. The Trinamool Congress has never done this and will not in the future. However, if an individual becomes entangled in another political party’s conspiracy and seeks to polarize voters by exploiting a religious event, thus creating chaos, action must be taken by the party."
The Trinamool spokesperson added, "Engaging in anti-party activities or attempting to disrupt the party’s organizational structure is a different scenario. In such cases, the issue transcends religion."
Earlier this week, Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress after he declared his intention to lay the foundation stone for the Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad district, on December 6.
Reiterating the party’s position, Ghosh remarked, “The Trinamool Congress honors all faiths. However, when political activities are conducted under the guise of religion, or when someone falls into the trap of another party’s provocation, it becomes a matter of organizational integrity. Claiming that someone was expelled for constructing a temple or mosque is utterly false.”
Earlier this week, while announcing Kabir’s suspension, senior party leader Firhad Hakim stated, "The party will cut ties with those who engage in political maneuvers involving religion."
Furthermore, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee previously asserted that the people of Murshidabad will not tolerate the "politics of riots."
