New Delhi, Nov 22 (NationPress) A significant political uproar has emerged following Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir's announcement regarding the laying of a foundation stone for a 'Babri Masjid' on December 6 in Beldanga, Murshidabad district. This date is particularly poignant, marking 33 years since the Babri mosque was demolished in Ayodhya.
BJP spokesperson Yaser Jilani vehemently condemned the MLA's statement, alleging that it is a calculated act of communal provocation aimed at gaining electoral advantage.
He stated, “TMC leaders, especially Humayun Kabir, are notorious for engaging in politics of hatred. Their actions are purely aimed at appeasement. By deliberately inciting communal tensions in Bengal, they are aware that the upcoming elections will see the populace rejecting TMC, and a wave of political transformation is on the horizon. Out of desperation, Humayun Kabir and senior TMC figures are attempting to mislead the public to safeguard their vote bank.”
Previously, Kabir had proclaimed, “We will lay the foundation stone for the Babri Masjid on December 6 in Beldanga, Murshidabad district. The construction will take three years, and various Muslim leaders are expected to attend the event.” His statements quickly sparked intense reactions across both political and religious communities.
Responses from the Congress party were varied and nuanced.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit commented, “Anyone can construct a mosque; what connection does that have with Babri? If they wish to build a mosque, they are free to do so.”
Congress MP Surendra Rajput added, “If someone is building a mosque, temples, gurudwaras, or churches, what makes this controversial? Why is it being framed as a contentious issue? Every faith has the right to establish its places of worship.”
The All India Imam Association also issued a theological rebuttal. Its president, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, remarked, “They may not realize that once a mosque is constructed in a location, it retains its status as a mosque for eternity. Even if numerous mosques are erected in India in the name of Babri Masjid, the historical significance of the original Babri Masjid in Ayodhya can never be diminished.”
