Bengal, Nov 21 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, the dissident Trinamool Congress MLA from Bharatpur, declared on Friday that the foundation stone for a mosque named 'Babri' will be laid on December 6 in Beldanga, located in the Murshidabad district.
"This mosque is set to take three years for completion. I made this commitment last year, on December 12. We anticipate around 200,000 attendees, with 400 notable figures gracing the stage," Kabir informed IANS.
It is noteworthy that the cornerstone for the 'Babri Masjid' in Murshidabad’s Beldanga will coincide with a rally in Kolkata addressed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress's General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, commemorating the anniversary of the mosque's demolition.
On that day, in the context of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal, Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee will be participating in the 'Samhati Diwas' (Unity Day) rally in Kolkata, emphasizing the message of unity and communal harmony.
Kabir also stated on Thursday that he will be unable to attend the Trinamool's event in Kolkata on December 6 due to his commitment to the foundation-laying ceremony.
He has observed a black day every year on December 6 since the Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992.
This isn't the first instance of the Bharatpur MLA challenging his party's authority or making contentious remarks.
Previously, Kabir hinted at forming a new political party as the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections approach, consistently confronting the Trinamool on various issues.
He has been a vocal critic of Trinamool Congress leaders, causing unease among senior party officials.
Kabir has also criticized Baharampur Trinamool MP Yusuf Pathan.
Despite multiple reprimands and show-cause notices from the Trinamool Congress leadership for his public comments that embarrassed the party, he continues to make bold statements.
