Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Dec 6 (NationPress) A financial allocation of Rs 300 crore has been set aside for the construction of the Babri Mosque in Beldanga, located in the minority-majority district of Murshidabad. This mosque is intended to resemble the original structure in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which was demolished on December 6, 1992, as stated by MLA Humayun Kabir after officiating the foundation stone laying ceremony in Murshidabad on Saturday afternoon.
Kabir, who has been suspended from the Trinamool Congress, asserted that the Calcutta High Court had confirmed that his actions regarding the mosque's establishment and the laying of its foundation stone were neither illegal nor against the constitution.
“We have secured a total of Rs 300 crore for the mosque's construction. Additionally, there will be a school and a hospital adjacent to the mosque. The Babri Mosque will undoubtedly be constructed here, and no one will be able to halt its progress. This is a matter of pride for the Muslim community,” Kabir remarked during the ceremony.
Furthermore, he mentioned that in addition to the school and hospital, there would be parks and hotels on the mosque-adjacent land to accommodate pilgrims.
Kabir also pointed out that a Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court had validated his initiative concerning the mosque at Beldanga, confirming that it was neither wrong nor unconstitutional.
“I have heard rumors that certain vested interests have placed a Rs 1 crore bounty on my head. Anyone who believes that miscreants from Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh can come here and disrupt the construction of the mosque is mistaken. No one will be able to harm me,” Kabir asserted.
During the event, he reiterated his plans to unveil his new political party on December 22 and will announce the names of its office bearers on that date. Prior to this, he stated he would resign as the legislator representing the Bharatpur constituency in Murshidabad district.
Previously, Kabir announced that his party intends to field numerous candidates in the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2026, focusing primarily on constituencies with significant minority populations. He also indicated that if necessary, his party would consider an alliance with the CPI(M)-led Left Front in West Bengal.
