Ayodhya, Nov 22 (NationPress) - In response to Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir's announcement regarding the laying of the foundation stone for a proposed 'Babri Masjid' in Murshidabad on December 6, marking the anniversary of the demolition of the original structure in Ayodhya, former Babri Masjid litigant Iqbal Ansari expressed his views on Saturday, stating that there should be no political maneuvering concerning the Mandir and Masjid.

Kabir, who initially revealed plans for the mosque last year, mentioned that the event is anticipated to attract around 200,000 attendees, including over 400 notable figures on stage, with construction expected to take approximately three years.

In an interview with IANS, Ansari remarked, “This issue pertains to Ayodhya, and when the Supreme Court reached its decision, Muslims nationwide accepted it. The court allocated five acres of land, so there is no necessity for political agendas revolving around the mosque now. Many matters fade with time, but in the current political climate, these topics are continuously resurrected.”

He further added, “Engaging in politics over Mandir-Masjid is detrimental to our nation. What we truly need is unity. I prefer to stay clear of politics driven by caste and religion. My desire is for harmony within the country. While caste and religion will persist, we should refrain from political exploitation based on these factors. Our discussions should center on the nation’s welfare, emphasizing job creation rather than these distractions.”

Nevertheless, MLA Kabir's statements have drawn significant criticism from the BJP, which accused the Trinamool Congress of engaging in “religion-based politics” and “appeasement strategies.”

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul commented, “Anyone is free to construct temples or mosques, but the Trinamool Congress chooses to politicize religion. Their choice of December 6 is evident in its intent. The pressing question is, what has the Trinamool Congress accomplished for minorities thus far?”
