Los Angeles, June 6 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood actor and four-time Academy Award nominee Tom Cruise has achieved a remarkable milestone with his latest film, “Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning”, securing a Guinness World Record.
The talented actor has set the record for the most burning parachute jumps by an individual, having leaped from a helicopter 16 times with a parachute engulfed in flames during a stunt for this final chapter in the acclaimed action series, as reported by deadline.com.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes – he is an action hero!” remarked Craig Glenday, the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, in an official statement.
Glenday further noted, “A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It’s an honour to be able to recognize his utter fearlessness with this new Guinness World Records title.”
In preparation for this daring feat, Cruise and his stunt team spent weeks training before ascending over 75,000 feet in a helicopter, from which he jumped with the ignited parachute, skillfully cutting himself free to deploy a backup chute. The breathtaking scene was filmed in Drakensberg, South Africa.
For several takes, Cruise was equipped with a snorri camera rig weighing over 22 Kgs (50 lbs), allowing for a close-up view of the fiery stunt.
A behind-the-scenes glimpse captured all 16 takes after the actor collaborated with the crew to walk through the stunt.
“We’re gonna be real smart. I’m not saying be risky. We don’t take risks… obviously,” Cruise expressed.
“Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning” is the eighth film in the Mission: Impossible series, following Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Cruise reprises his iconic role as Ethan Hunt, alongside co-stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett.
In this installment, Hunt and his Impossible Mission Force team strive to thwart a rogue AI known as The Entity from unleashing catastrophic destruction on humanity.
The film was shot across various locations, including England, Malta, South Africa, and Norway, and is considered one of the 20 most expensive films ever made.
