Narasimha Rao on his birth anniversary, recognizing him as a visionary leader whose daring economic liberalization strategies significantly influenced the contemporary Indian economy and enhanced the nation's global stature.
Born on June 28, 1921, in Laknepalli village of the former Warangal district in today's Telangana, Narasimha Rao hailed from a Telugu Niyogi Brahmin family.
A freedom fighter during the struggle for independence, he became deeply involved in politics post-independence as a member of the Indian National Congress and served as India's ninth Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996.
He was the first leader from South India and only the second from a non-Hindi-speaking background to hold the esteemed position.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledged Rao's impactful legacy in a social media message, describing him as "a towering statesman and scholar par excellence."
