Agartala, March 7 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the state administration is prioritizing the enhancement of the Panchayati Raj system, aiming for the sustainable development of each village in the near future.
During the inauguration of a state-level event for the ceremonial distribution of 475 computers and recognition for top performers of the National Panchayat Awards, the Chief Minister emphasized that the BJP government is focused on advancing every Panchayat in the state successfully.
He expressed the government's dedication to bolstering the infrastructure of the Panchayati Raj system while promoting good governance and comprehensive development.
Regarding the Panchayat Development Index, Saha highlighted Tripura's achievement of reaching the highest status in three sectors, which reflects a collective accomplishment earned through collaboration.
He stated that while distributing computers and awards is important, the primary goal is to further strengthen the Panchayat system. Saha reiterated that this initiative is essential for ensuring ongoing success and advancement.
“We must prioritize the needs of the people and improve our delivery systems. With innovative ideas, we can maintain the momentum of good governance and development,” he remarked.
Focusing on the transformations in the Panchayat system since 2018 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister noted that Modi is executing various schemes aimed at benefiting the populace.
“The Prime Minister has consistently asserted that with 70 to 75 percent of the nation being rural, developing these areas is vital for the overall strength of our country. The state government is operating with this vision in mind,” he added.
The Chief Minister further mentioned there are two and a half lakh Panchayats nationwide.
“If any Panchayat from our state achieves the top position at the national level, it will signify that we are on the right path. Our recognition is a reflection of our hard work. This accomplishment not only advances our state's progress but also aids in the nation's development. The Panchayat Devolution Index, conducted by the central government every 8 to 10 years, previously ranked Tripura at 13th or 14th before 2015. Now, we have improved to the 7th position. I urge the public representatives here to generate more innovative ideas for the growth of their respective Panchayats,” he stated.
Saha emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at creating ideal Panchayats through solar energy, smart Panchayat formations, enhancement of groundwater levels, and effective management of solid and liquid waste.
“We have also received national accolades for being a women-friendly and child-friendly Panchayat. Therefore, it is crucial to take measures to ensure that all Panchayats are both child-friendly and women-friendly,” he concluded.
