Tripura's Per Capita Income Surpasses Bengal by Rs 1.77 Lakh: Amit Shah

Agartala, Dec 22 (NationPress) On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the per capita income in BJP-ruled Tripura has now exceeded that of the neighboring West Bengal by Rs 1.77 lakh. This statement was made during his address at the National Cooperative Conference in Agartala, where he highlighted that prior to the BJP taking power in Tripura in 2018, the state's per capita income stood at Rs 98,000, which has now risen to Rs 1.77 lakh.
Shah attributed this increase to the effective governance of the BJP, claiming that a new era of development commenced after their rise to power in Tripura. He noted that the piped water supply coverage expanded from under three percent to 87 percent of households. Additionally, over 80 percent of the population is receiving 5 kg of rice free of charge, and 80 percent are enrolled in a Rs 5 lakh free healthcare scheme.
During his speech, Amit Shah pointed out that India has ascended to the fifth position in the global economy, rising from 11th place, and is on track to become the third-largest economy by 2027.
The ultimate goal of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, according to Shah, is to enhance the prosperity of every Indian family. He highlighted that 70 percent of farmers in Tripura are engaged in organic farming and emphasized the government's efforts to boost farmers' incomes.
Additionally, Shah, who also oversees the Ministry of Cooperation, mentioned that over 3,138 cooperatives are active in various sectors such as dairy and animal husbandry in Tripura.
He urged all state governments to participate in the National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), launched by the Central government, which aims to connect farmers involved in cooperative organic farming and develop infrastructure for packaging, marketing, and export.
Shah stressed the importance of states entering into agreements with NCOL to facilitate access for their farmers to the global market for organic products.
He also announced a government initiative to set up an organic certification lab in every state of the Northeast, with one in each district for larger states like Assam, ensuring reliable certification for both soil and agricultural products.
Through brands such as Amul and Bharat, Shah assured that their products would reach international markets.
Earlier on the same day, Shah visited the Reang tribal settlement camp located at Haduklaupara village in the Dhalai district. He pointed out that the Reang tribals, who previously lived in dire conditions, received no assistance from the previous Left Front government. Since the BJP assumed power in 2018, significant efforts have been made to alleviate the difficulties faced by the Reang tribals.
For the resettlement of approximately 38,000 Reang tribals across 12 locations in Tripura, around Rs 900 crore is being allocated.
The Reang tribals had migrated from Mizoram in 1997 due to ethnic conflicts, and after an agreement, were settled in 12 locations across four districts in Tripura — North Tripura, Dhalai, Gomati, and South Tripura.
Following years of protests and negotiations, a quadripartite agreement was reached in January 2020 among the Centre, Tripura, and Mizoram governments along with the Reang tribal leaders to facilitate the resettlement of 6,302 families in 12 locations across four of Tripura's eight districts.
