UP Special Summary Revision 2026: CEO urges citizens to join voter list drive
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Election Commission of India's Special Summary Revision (SSR) formally commenced across Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, 17 October 2026, with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa calling on eligible residents to register on the electoral rolls and ensure their 'participation in democracy.' The drive targets citizens missed during the earlier Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, as well as first-time young voters yet to enrol.
What the SSR Drive Involves
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed at polling stations across the state to assist residents with new registrations and corrections to existing voter records. Special camps were established at every polling booth in Pilibhit district, where a large number of young voters submitted Form-6 applications after meeting their designated BLO. The process also covers residents whose names were previously deleted, who are being helped to re-register by submitting the required documents.
In Etawah, BLOs were stationed at all 1,437 polling booths from the morning to facilitate additions and corrections. Officials were also present at Government Girls Inter College and Islamia Inter College in the district.
What Officials Said on the Ground
Etawah Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Manoj Kumar Pathak personally inspected polling stations across the urban area, reviewing arrangements at approximately 10 centres. 'There are four booths here, and all four BLOs are present. I have visited around 10 centres so far. Awareness about the campaign has been spread through electronic media and newspapers. We are continuing our efforts, and we expect people to gradually start arriving,' Pathak said.
In Basti, special camps were set up at Begum Khair Inter College, Khair Inter College, and Saxseria Inter College, where officials received Form-8 applications and distributed voter ID cards. According to a BLO present at the camps, the registration facilities had been operating at these locations for the past four days.
Participation Across Districts
In Lucknow, residents visited SSR camps to enrol family members whose names were missing from voter rolls. In Unnao, a parallel drive was underway specifically for citizens whose names had been deleted, with people arriving at polling booths to submit re-registration documents. The statewide mobilisation reflects the Election Commission's effort to maximise electoral roll accuracy ahead of future polls.
The CEO's Appeal and Social Media Push
CEO Navdeep Rinwa amplified the campaign on social media platform X, writing: 'A special campaign is being run in Uttar Pradesh to add the names of eligible citizens who were missed from the voter list and young voters.' The post underscored the administration's emphasis on reaching first-time and previously missed voters, with BLO camps positioned at the grassroots level to reduce barriers to enrolment. The SSR is expected to continue over the coming days, with officials anticipating a gradual increase in footfall as awareness spreads through both digital and print channels.
