Has Preparatory Work for SIR Started in Telangana?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 5 (NationPress) The initial steps for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana have officially begun, as announced by the state's Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday.
In preparation for the SIR, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) urged political parties to assign at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) to each polling station.
During a meeting with representatives from recognized political parties, CEO C. Sudharsan Reddy emphasized that robust booth-level coordination is essential for this initiative.
He mentioned that BLAs should ideally be selected from the local vicinity of the polling station and collaborate closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Each polling booth must have at least one designated BLA to guarantee accuracy, transparency, and swift resolution of issues during the revision of electoral rolls.
The CEO informed the political parties that the SIR is currently being implemented in 12 states, with the timeline for the remaining states, including Telangana, expected to be announced in April-May 2026.
Considering the limited time available for the revision once announced, the preparatory work has already started in the state.
As part of this preparatory phase, a table-top mapping exercise has been conducted to connect electors listed in the 2025 electoral rolls with those covered during the 2002 SIR.
This will be followed by field-level mapping, where Booth Level Officers will visit homes to identify and verify residences, particularly in urban settings.
During the SIR, BLOs are anticipated to conduct three to four visits to each polling area. Enumeration forms will be distributed during the first visit, while follow-up visits will address households that were not available initially.
The CEO clarified that electors who are not mapped during this preparatory phase will still have the opportunity to submit their information during the SIR.
Reaffirming the importance of political parties in this process, the CEO urged them to finalize the appointment of BLAs for all polling stations promptly, citing that effective booth-level participation would enhance coordination, reduce grievances, and ensure that no eligible voter is left off the electoral rolls.
The meeting was attended by Additional CEO Vasam Venkateshwar Reddy, Deputy CRO Hari Singh, among other officials.
