Chennai, Dec 30 (NationPress) In a significant step towards enhancing electoral participation and achieving greater precision in the voters’ list, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled comprehensive directives for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Tamil Nadu.
The revision initiative, which commenced following the release of the draft electoral roll, will be accessible for claims and objections from December 19, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
As noted by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu, this revision effort presents an opportunity for eligible individuals whose names are absent from the draft rolls to apply for their inclusion. It also facilitates the enrollment of new voters—those who have reached the age of 18.
This initiative is part of the Election Commission’s commitment to ensure a thorough, accurate, and error-free electoral roll prior to the forthcoming elections.
To bolster the involvement of political parties in the revision effort, the Election Commission has granted Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognized political parties a more proactive role. According to the guidelines released by the ECI via communication No. 23/2025-ERS (Vol. II) dated October 27, 2025, each BLA is now permitted to submit up to 10 application forms daily to the designated Booth Level Officer (BLO).
However, the Commission has instituted clear safeguards to uphold the integrity of the process. BLAs are required to provide a list of the application forms along with a formal declaration affirming that they have personally verified the information provided in each application and are confident in its accuracy.
Upon receipt, the Booth Level Officers will validate the applications, digitize the information, and forward it to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) or Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). The ERO will meticulously evaluate each application and take necessary actions based on established rules.
The Election Commission has highlighted that the active and responsible engagement of recognized political parties is vital for the effective execution of the Special Intensive Revision.
This exercise aims to ensure that no eligible citizen is overlooked in the electoral roll, thereby maintaining an inclusive, transparent, and credible democratic process.
