Is the Baloch National Movement Right to Condemn the Pakistani Army Over 'Baseless Propaganda'?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has issued a strong condemnation of the Pakistani military for what it termed a "groundless propaganda campaign" targeting its leadership.
This denunciation arises amidst BNM's efforts to challenge Islamabad's preferential trade status under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+), particularly in light of severe human rights violations reported throughout Balochistan.
The rights organization has claimed that the Pakistani Army is not only complicit in egregious crimes against humanity via the unlawful exercise of state power against the Baloch populace, but is also engaged in media trials and tactics associated with "fifth-generation warfare" to disseminate misinformation.
"This propaganda aims not only to foster negative sentiments on social media against the Baloch movement but also to impose significant and real challenges for peaceful political activists both domestically and internationally. The global community is aware that agents of the Pakistan Army have been implicated in severe offenses, including assassination attempts against political adversaries, particularly those affiliated with the BNM in neighboring and Western nations," the BNM asserted.
The organization highlighted that its leader, Naseem Baloch, who has been falsely accused by Major General Ahmed Sharif, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), of engaging in armed activities, advocates for the Baloch quest for freedom through peaceful political avenues.
"We categorically denounce these false and malicious claims against him," the statement continued.
The BNM remarked that Pakistan's GSP+ privileges cannot be sustained alongside its ongoing human rights violations, which has led the BNM to launch an extensive campaign across Europe to draw attention to these issues.
Following an increase in the campaign's visibility, the Pakistani Army and state institutions have ramped up their propaganda efforts against the BNM in an attempt to "undermine" these initiatives.
"European entities must come to a clearer realization that Pakistan not only physically endangers peaceful political activists but also endeavors to tarnish their reputations and lives through systematic disinformation and false propaganda. Pakistan has a long history of depicting victims as criminals and oppressors as victims," it emphasized.
Reiterating that the Baloch people will not be misled by such strategies, the BNM characterized these actions by Pakistan as blatant harassment. The organization affirmed it would not be cowed into silence, vowing to confront Pakistan at every possible level.
