Kochi, Jan 7 (NationPress) A police officer in Kerala was suspended on Wednesday following allegations of molestation made by a young woman during the process of passport verification. Authorities have signaled that this matter is being handled with seriousness and could potentially lead to the officer's arrest.

The officer in question, Civil Police Officer (CPO) Vijesh, who is assigned to the Palluruthy Police Station in Ernakulam district, has been put on suspension while an inquiry is underway after the Kochi City Harbour Police filed a case against him.

According to her statement, Vijesh directed her to a walkway within the jurisdiction of the Harbour Police Station for verification completion.

The woman alleges that upon her arrival at the designated location, the officer molested her, abusing his position and authority.

In response to the complaint, a case has been filed against Vijesh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, which includes provisions for outraging a woman's modesty.

Police officials confirmed that parallel departmental proceedings have been initiated against the officer along with the criminal case lodged by the Harbour Police.
