Gandhinagar, Dec 15 (NationPress) Gujarat has demonstrated an exceptional and nearly complete performance during the counting phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, executed in alignment with the directives of the Election Commission of India.

Initiated statewide on October 27, 2025, the SIR initiative encompassed 5.08 crore voter enumeration forms, with the entire process—from distribution to digitisation—conducted in mission mode.

Out of these, 10.69 lakh cases identified under the ASD category (Absent, Shifted, Deceased) have been addressed for verification, which is now approaching completion.

Remarkably, 26 out of the state's 33 districts have attained zero discrepancies in their ASD lists, while in the remaining seven districts, verification remains pending in just 11 cases.

To promote transparency and accuracy, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from political parties conducted coordinated meetings, achieving 100 percent completion of verification efforts.

Following this, constituency-specific lists of voters whose forms were not received were published on the websites of the respective District Election Officers and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

The impressive results in the counting phase highlight Gujarat's dedicated efforts towards maintaining clean, inclusive, and error-free electoral rolls through the SIR campaign.

The SIR of electoral rolls is vital in ensuring the accuracy, credibility, and inclusiveness of India's democratic process.

By systematically verifying voter details at the grassroots level, SIR aids in identifying and rectifying discrepancies such as duplicate entries, deceased voters, permanent migrants, and missing electors, thus reinforcing the integrity of electoral rolls.

This exercise also guarantees that eligible citizens are not overlooked, boosting voter confidence and participation in elections.

Conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India with active participation from booth-level officers and political parties, SIR plays a crucial role in maintaining free, fair, and transparent elections, which form the foundation of a healthy democracy.

Point of View

I view Gujarat's significant advancements in the counting phase of the SIR as a testament to the state's commitment to electoral integrity. This initiative not only enhances the credibility of voter rolls but also fosters greater electoral participation, aligning with the nation's democratic values.
