Gandhinagar, Jan 29 (NationPress) Over 16.76 lakh applications have been submitted during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Gujarat. Out of these, 6.88 lakh voters are requesting the inclusion of their names, while 9.88 lakh have sought deletions, as per the official data released on Thursday.

This revision initiative is being conducted following directives from the Election Commission of India.

As of January 28, a total of 6,88,116 Forms 6 and 6A have been filed for the inclusion of names in the final electoral roll, with 9,88,621 Forms 7 submitted across various Assembly constituencies for the removal of names.

Voters have until January 30 to submit claims or objections regarding the inclusion, deletion, or correction of entries in the voter lists.

Verification of claims and objections will occur concurrently, with decisions made after a thorough field-level assessment.

The SIR campaign in Gujarat commenced on October 27 of the previous year, encompassing all 182 Assembly constituencies. Booth Level Officers are conducting door-to-door verification to update voter information.

After the enumeration phase concluded, the draft electoral roll was released on December 19, allowing for public review.

Officials noted that the SIR aims to guarantee that eligible voters are included while ensuring that ineligible names are removed.

The Election Commission has reiterated that the goal of this initiative is to enhance the precision and dependability of voter lists ahead of upcoming elections.

The revision process encompasses the registration of first-time voters who have reached the age of 18, as well as those who have changed their residences within or outside constituencies.

Simultaneously, efforts are being made to identify entries related to deceased voters, duplicate registrations, and permanent migrants for deletion.

Election authorities indicated that once all claims and objections are validated and addressed, the final electoral roll will be published according to the established timeline.
